ABA for Autism: Take Action Now!

Like us on Facebook: www.facebook.com/autismlive

Autism Live, together with The Center for Autism & Related Disorders (CARD), Autism Care and Treatment — Today (ACT-Today), Skills, and Talk About Curing Autism (TACA), launched a petition to urge Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius to specify that applied behavior analysis (ABA) is part of the essential health benefits in the Affordable Care Act. Without further guidance from Secretary Sebelius, each state will decide whether ABA-based treatment for individuals with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) is covered as a behavioral health treatment. This petition seeks to protect the existing healthcare benefits of individuals with ASD and to enhance the benefits for individuals who live in a state that doesn’t require insurance carriers to provide coverage for ABA-based treatment for ASD. To sign the petition and/or to find out more, click the link below.

BCBA Angela Persicke visits to talk about studies that show the efficacy of a 30-40 hour program for small children on the spectrum. As more and more insurance companies are funding ABA therapy families are being told that 15, 20 and 25 hours a week are what is appropriate for their small child. Where is the research to support that? There is plenty of research on the efficacy of early intensive ABA therapy for Autism ? but all of it suggests that 30-40 hours a week is that is effective. Need to know which studies show that? This is the video to watch!
