Teacher Denies Autism Diagnosis of Dead Child

Jenny Smith claimed to have been one of Terry Smith’s 4th Grade teachers and on camera during an interview with KABC claimed that although people might be shocked the child did not have Autism. Autism Mom, Shannon Penrod, raises questions about why Ms. Smith felt qualified and empowered to talk about a child’s diagnosis with anyone, especially a news crew, while the child was missing. Parents who agree that this is an outrage should feel free to contact the Menifee School District and ask for Ms. Smith’s immediate dismissal.

Teaching our children with Autism how to be safe in all situations is necessary but overwhelming. Emily Iland, a well respected Autism Advocate, shares her new project: Be Safe, The Movie. This is an important film that depicts a wide variety of situations and clearly demonstrates proper safety procedures in a way that young individuals on the spectrum will understand. This is a film to watch and share with your older child. It covers following safety rules, knowing what to do in an emergency, how to respond to first responders and more. It even demonstrates what to do if you are the victim of mistaken identity and how you should cooperate with the police.
