Board Certified Behavior Analyst Evelyn Gould provides suggestions for getting teenagers on the spectrum ready for dating. Teens are encouraged to make concentric circles defining levels of friendship. Next socially appropriate rules are assigned to each circle that are in alignment with the teens skills and the family’s personal preferences. Next social rules are covered for handling situations that are difficult and or emotionally charged. This helps teen have a “visual decision tree”, helping them to make choices about whether their behaviors is appropriate as well as the behavior of their friends.
